shoobeedoowop...!!

shoobeedoowop...!!

yea man! soccer made it into the finals, and we get an early dismissal (at ten something) to make sure we don't get too tired out by school and thus, be would be able to turn out at full force to support the VJ team.

i'll be there!! hahaha...it's really fun to go cheering and all, seriously, even that time when i went down to go and watch the basketball match (don't ask me why). i don't even know the team, but still, it was a good deal of fun. heck, i even cheered for the TJ boys team after that too! (hahaha!! TJ won.... pfffffft....)

even though i have to admit, i was rather resentful that VJ places so much importance on sports, soccer especially up to the point that the performing arts hardly get mentioned, but i have nothing against the sports teams themselves. honestly man...! i think everyone who trains and practices hard, physically or not, deserve a slice of the pie.

it's just sad that people tend to glorify certain CCA over others. but that's just the way life is. like for example, many people regard the sports guys/gals as automatically the cream of the crop, and maybe SRS people are all nerds. you get what i mean? like what el Choy says, the only way to overcome prejudice is by consciously keeping it in check. the sports people are skilled-ed in their fields (no pun...) the arts people have their own strengths and i guess the slackers have....their own reasons lah! hahaha...

anyway, to all those representing our dear college by the sea in anything, sports, debates, arts competitions, GYLC, and Pre-U Seminar.... i wish you all the best and i sincerely hope you do the VJ spirit proud.

got to go my readers...i've got choir elections in 15 minutes, then i'm released from this place!!

aaaah...sorry, no jokes this time. =P

Clearasil...

Clearasil...

okay okay, i know it's something to combat against congested noses, but just to clarify things. after my last post, i know that it might have left some bitter aftertastes in some people, especially if you think that person is you.

don't worry, okay? no hard feelings. it's just sometimes somethings some people say get me thinking some thoughts.

stay funkaaaaaay peepz...!!!

A Post on V-day. (Vesak Day)

A Post on V-day. (Vesak Day)

hmm...yup, yet another one from me. today's Vesak Day! happy vesak-ing to all those who are buddhists, and to those who aren't, i trust this will be a happy day for you too, because it's a public holiday. and indeed, it seems that the people everywhere are making full use of this break.

i went to parkway with lipjeen for a while only today, and it was packed! wow, i didn't think such a seemingly out-of-place shopping mall (unless you're an easterling) could get so packed!

i feel very empty now. (not hungry...!) i just finished some game, and now there's no distractions left to pull me away from studying for my block tests coming at the end of june. but don't worry. minghui will surely find a way. (uh oh....) hahaha. like for example, my dinner tonight dragged on from about 7 to 8.20pm. i joined yeanching, yeekiat and hokito and just chatted away about dumb stuff la.haha...it was quite fun to just sit and listen and crack jokes about stuff like lesbian couples in TKGS (contributor:YC), muscular girls in softball (contributor:YK) and all sorts... i thought i'd better acknowledge them just in case some people decide to read this and sue me for unauthorised use of their intellectual property.

gosh, what is the world coming to? or more specifically, why has the blogging world become so caught up in controversial exposure and being the subject of admonishment and legal action?

blogs are hardly private, agreed, but let's take for example, the case where a blog with racist comments pepper the posts. the blogger was actually warned for posting such things online for others to read. this is classic singaporean "papa will protect you" mentality. don't tell me the people in singapore will start a riot once they start reading one silly blog of some insignificant idiot? are they not mature enough to discern between rational, thinking posts and those which are not? are you going to comb through the internet and unearth all the anti-government, racist and anti-social website in the name of 'harmony'?

how about the blogs of two (lets just call them A*MOON) scholars which came under heavy fire from those above when they criticised the agency. didn't the agency agree to finance their education in return for their services to the agency? in which part of the binding agreement did they agree not to express their thoughts about A*MOON? what you really seek to do is to breed unthinking, conforming robots to do research for you. so what if they speak up against you? will they still serve you? they will. will it affect their service to you? who knows? but a spade is a spade and a contract extends only up to what it encompasses.

so has our society evolved to become today. those who control the present want to control the past. we have become a materialistic, elitist society with a distorted sense of what's right and what's not. like for example, a friend bought a birthday gift for another friend. i asked if it was nice, and my friend replied, "hey, it's from quiksilver." your effort to go out and get something nice is really appreciated, trust me, but just because it's branded doesn't automatically make it good! can't they churn out flops? get it straight la...nice things are nice things, period. branding merely jacks the prices up.

some of us have really, really weird ways of looking at what's right and what's not. another one of my acquaintances, he can freely criticise people and put them down, just to make himself feel better. are you trapped in a loop of low self-esteem where the only cure is to exalt yourself? is there something wrong with coming down from the pedestral of oh-i-am-so-great and be friends and be nice? what's wrong with seeing yourself as a peer and not dismissing people "aiyah, i ken alwiz do this better lah." take statistics. on average, every person is a nobody. his strengths and his weaknesses cancel out each other. but what is wrong with recognising that someone is unique?

my other friend, for example. i'm really proud of him. i was just telling my friend about him yesterday as we were taking the bus back from church. he just does what he wants to. he doesn't copy lecture notes or bother about his studies. he just sits there and writes in his little book. i'm worried about his studies, but at the same time i recognise the vast unexplored potential he has in creative writing, poetry, reflective expressions and music! too bad he got caught up in this system. he should have gotten into the arts stream and then NAFA or LaSalle. but the problem is his parents. like mine, they don't see anything beyond studies. or to put it more aptly, they do not see anything as worth paying attention to besides studies.

i lament for what the world has become.

Fables...with a pinch of malaysia in it.

Fables...With a Pinch of Malaysia in it.

you ever heard of the story about the ant and the grasshopper. c'mon, y'know, the one where the ant stores up food in anticipation of winter while the grasshopper just slacks around? yup, here it is, Malaysian style...Malaysia boleh!! (haha, applies to the insects also lah!) haiyoh, i read and laugh until like crazy sia...

Winter story
Once upon a time, there lived an ant and a grasshopper.
The grasshopper does nothing else but jump around and
play.

On the other hand, the ant is so hardworking, looking
for food all day long and store them in its nest.

Looking at his hardworking friend working so hard, the
grasshopper ask, "Hey, Ant! U dun have to relax ah?
Always busy one. Come and play with me lah."

To which the ant replied, "I can't lah i have to store
all these food." "Haiyah! Relax lah. Why u bother
storing all these food? When u hungry den go find
lah." the grasshopper told the ant again.

"Eh,cannot lah. I have to standby for the coming
winter season. Then I no need to panic mah. I think u
oso must standby u know." The ant telling his friend.

"Where got time...I go play better. U wanna store food
u go ahead lah. I continue playing ok.. bye!" And hop
goes the grasshopper.

The Ant is a hardworking guy... oops i mean insect.
Not like the grasshopper who is so lazy. And so as
days, weeks, months go by, the winter still has not
come yet but the ant is still seen searching and
storing food.

The two friends happen to meet again. "Hey Ant! U
still haven't finished storing food ah? Last time all
the food all go where? So fast finish ah?" asked
Grasshopper.

"I got keep but all overdue liao. So cannot eat
anymore. All because winter not here yet. Now i have
to go and look for new food." sighed the ant.

"But ant ah.. U dun mind i ask ah.. Did u ever have a
thought that Malaysia where got winter?" ask the
grasshopper again. "AHHHH????!!!!!" the ant was
shocked!

THE END.

The moral of the story is whatever u do better think
properly 1st. Dun anyhow hantam only... :)

Just Another Sunday........(NOT!!)

Just Another Sunday........(NOT!!)

ahhh....sundays are here again. the tranquility of sundays far outshines the creeping shadows of the coming mondays. and then, on tuesday, of course, i have my choir concert, Symphony of Voices, at the Esplanade.

i feel a little guilty. i really really do. i skipped church for the second sunday running. (i mean second sunday in a row, not jogging....) here's what happened on that dreadful morning of uncanny events

i woke up with a start at 8.30, to go down for breakfast, but decided to sleep on, as i was still quite groggy and blur. so i finally woke up at about 9 something, to leave. by this time, me and YeeKiat would have already made up our minds to skip our sunday school class too. (it's full of annoying chatty people from ACJC anyway).

then came the call from my ex-roommate, NgeeZheng.
"oi! service is at 8.30 la! today the church got AGM!"

that settled it. too late to make it there for anything, me and YeeKiat skipped....again...

haiyar....so naughty sia....! hahaha...last week was mother's day. hope my mum liked my gift. i don't think she's coming for my choir concert. too bad for you mum. you're never gonna see your son perform like that again.

so anyways!! take care you peeps! cya at my concert (hopefully!! =P)

Costumes

Costumes

phewh!!! what a long and (how should i say this...?) activities-packed day? or erm, packed-with-activities day? aiyaaaaa.... you get my drift.

today we all had to wake up at the crack of dawn for choir practice at Siglap South Community Centre. actually it was at eleven in the morning, la, but, hey! it's all about perception mah...

we had a costume tech-run, so we all had to don our costumes, namely the hebrew one and the chinese one. the hebrew one, which looks a little gay, feels prickly and itchy on the skin and for which i paid S$20 but came with a S$15.90 pricetag. (i should start a riot) the chinese costume as all yellow, and i rented it for S$15. it's all smooth and thin and all, and while the hebrew costume looks kinda gay, the chinese one actually feels GAY!

anyway, that was that, and we all got our little kick from seeing each other in a whole new light. gabes looked darn funny in his mismatched stuff, most of the guys looked like some kung-fu-shits wanna-bes, the girls look like those chinese restaurant auntie/waitresses in cheongsams with high slits on the sides. hahaha....i have to say a lotta people looked good too. well done, you good-looking bunch of people...! hahaha....

so after choir (i realise i'm describing my day in chronological order yea...) i went out with LipJeen to orchard road. just to jalan-jalan la. yep, the best times to spend with friends is not necessarily doing lots of stuff of doing crazy stuff, but the simple stuff. time talking and just chilling out is really priceless.

so is the really unpredictability of things that happen during those times. like how some dumb bird can release that little disgusting bit of fecal matter from its perch on the branch to an unsuspecting guy down there. *whap* ... "WHAT THE....!"

and you get the rest, luckilly it landed on my forearm and not anywhere else. sheesh. bloody birds.

then LipJeen sabo-ed me! i just got out from the toilet and met her outside, she pulled me close....
"i think your zip....still open la...!"

WALAU!!! so embarassing! so there was that little moment on the verge of panic where i frantically tried to recall whether i had or hadn't zipped a while ago...then, temptation overcoming me, i checked....!

my zipper was closed.

aiiiiiyaaaaaaa....!!! cheat my feelings sia... hahaha....

anyway, it was a fun saturday. haha...

Just Some Things I'd Like to Say

Just Some Things I'd Like to Say

haiz...just some thoughts that happen to zoom by. last sunday was mums day! hahaha...lemme tell you about my mum.

My Mum's Funky
hahaha, yeah, she is! she rebonded her hair, and gave it a nice cut, and then she blackened out all the white hairs! hahaha...and she don't dress like no aunty, daaaawwwg! she likes all those things those teens will like, truly young at heart, she loves blue, keane, and maroon5!

My Mum's My Best Friend
although she's my mum, but the both of us talk like friends. she's the one who know's me best, seeing my grow up and all.she's open to all sorts of trash from us, like dirty jokes, lame jokes, stupid comments and such. she even said 'f***' when she was talking about my dad's mistress, joane. hahaha...she taught me sexual education at 10, and actually drew out the female reproductive organs and went into a lengthy explanation about how life began. hahaha...oh yea! she watched the titanic nude scenes with me too...!

My Mum's Strong.
yup yup, this is for sure. after confirming that my dad was having an affair, she threw my dad out of the house. literally. while my dad was out on one of his supposed 'business trips' she packed his belongings into those large DHL boxes, put them, outside the house and changed the locks. hahaha...it also helped that the title to our house is in my mums name.when he came back, my mum shoo-ed my dad to his parents place. wowee...

My Mum's the Best
she is. there's no replacing a person like her. although we all could have live a better life and done more things, i wouldn't have ad it any other way. what i went through moulded me and for my past years with her, i am thankful.

i'm coming back home soon.

Hello My Friend We Meet Again

Hello My Friend We Meet Again

and hello indeed. that's the first line of a Creed song i seem to have trouble evicting from my head nowadays, its called 'my sacrifice'. anyway, wow, as of today, it has been a grand total of...lemme see...a week and a day of not blogging! haha, let's just call this syndrome Blogger's Inertia. there are a few types. i suffer from the very insiduous variant when you have a great reduction in your boh-liao time (SYF...!) and you have limitted (or almost zero) internet access. (like in my hostel)

so...what has happened since?? last wednesday, the VJ choir emerged SYF champions!!! whoohoo!!! haha...for those of you all reading from back home or elsewhere coz you're just to free, SYF is singapore youth festival, which is a bi-annual arts competition of the various arts forms between primary schools(i think), secondary schools, and junior colleges. whoohoo!!! we came it tops!! this was supposed to be strictly confidential, but according to some inside sources, we were the only choir who got more than 90% in marks. way to go choiR!!!!! all that training paid off! all those mornings coming at seven a.m. for an hour of singing, and all that mercilless grilling from the conductors and sectional leaders...it's great to be at the top guys.

i wish everyone i know has the chance to feel what it's like to be the best. it doesn't really matter in what you do. be it in studies, in little class tests, on the soccer field, on the inter-house debates team, on the unstable kayaks, on the softball pitch, or blowing away on the harmonica. there's a rush that you cannot get anytime else. that feeling that you're really appreciated, and you're actually freaking good at what you do. my friends, i wish for a moment of triumph for all of you.

tahz...!
