F&N - Deepavali Week (kinda)

you know, even when you just live everyday and do all your mundane everyday-ish things, you discover things about yourself?

i found that out today.

i like old stuff! haha. serious!

i turned onto channel 412 on astro, cinemax, and i managed to catch "Bridge Over The River Kwai"

man, i was so excited. i was rivetted for at least 2 hours. it was a good show! it ended with everyone except the bad guys dying, and yet it still conveyed the honour of dying, determination and sacrifice. i mean, what the hell is wrong with shows today?

when was the last time spiderman died? i mean, there was one scene showing spiderman trying to leap from one building to another, just to see if he really lost his powers. he fell at least ten storeys onto the hoods of cars and walked away with a sore back.

aiyoh, c'mon la, people lift shopping bags already got herniated disc lorh. people sneeze also can have non-stop epistaxis lorh... (if you're taking anti-platelet drugs la) imagine spidey lying there with a gearstick, well, sticking out of his chest. haha.

anyway. about old stuff. old cars rock man!!! like the '69 'boss' mustang, the AC Shelby Cobra. and OLD TEE SHIRTS!! wouldn't sleep in anything else. and the older the wine, the better! (although for all the good that does, i can't tell the difference). vintage guitars, 18th century castles, aged kimchi perhaps? even older girls! haha... lipjeen is a wee bit older than me la.

anw, my point is, this applies to music too. i guess to appreciate today's music you have to listen to the pioneers!

for example, these guys!

This and That

garh! what a drag! we've just dived head-first (brain left behind) into the Central Nervous System. gah.

lemme say it again! GAH!!

oh well, on the other side of things, there's things that keep life pleasant even in the midst of all that.

like seeing littlemisscutekow every morning!

talking shit with my mum.

and cooking our very first dinner in subang with my family. i made a big omelet, my brother teriyaki beef, and my dad impressed us with his skill in steaming up a frozen otak-otak.

and performing Superstar (Lupe Fiasco) acoustically with seng chye.

and then today: hosting the Bachelor/Bachelorette thingy with praveena. i tell you, if ever i have to MC, it would be with her. had a good time. but unlike Superstar aforementioned, there wasn't like a feeling of satisfaction of a job well done. coz we dragged it too long for teck jian to stay around to present his gift, and we forgot to tell the crowd a lotta things, and the crowd all started shouting, "LAME!! LAME!!" at me.

haiya. oh well. makes life interesting.

OOH!! OOH!!! CSU video on the sensory system was hilarious! i tell you, the whole CSU group burst out in laughter (quite explosively, in fact) literally at the first scene of the movie!

it was Dr Edy something la. his face arh~~~

A Touch of Genius

i've been reading a lot lately. oh shush you naysayers. i know i'm supposed to be studying. but while i was at korea, i've read bram stoker's dracula and finished john grisham's the street lawyer. at home i've treacherously read two books at once, a few roald dahl short stories while reading some from neil gaiman.

the most mundane? john grisham. he just doesn't cut it. not like salman rushdie. he brilliantly sets words into order such as to paint a picture of a character's emotions, mixed and all a-screwed as they are. it hits such a resounding homerun in me, that i find myself nodding in agreement.

but enough of him. i'm reading neil gaiman's short stories right now. and they are an absolute joy. short stories are one of the best things in literature. a short story, compared to a full length novel is like having a minature ship in a bottle along side a full-sides yatch.

anyway, lest i bore you, the first few paragraph of neil gaiman's 'shoggoth's old peculiar'. i found it particularly funny:

Benjamin Lassiter was coming to the unavoidable conclusion that the woman who had written A Walking Tour of the British Coastline, the book he was carrying in his backpack, had never been on a walking tour of any kind, and would probably not recognize the British coastline if it were to dance through her bedroom at the head of a marching band, singing "I'm the British Coastline" in a loud and cheerful voice while accompanying itself on the kazoo.

He had been following her advice for five days now and had little to show for it, except blisters and a backache. All British seaside resorts contain a number of bed-and-breakfast establishments, who will only be too delighted to put you up for the "off season." was one such piece of advice. Ben had crossed it out and written in the margin beside it: All British seaside resorts contain a handful of bed-and-breakfasts establishments, the owners of which take off to Spain or Provence or somewhere on the last day of September, locking doors behind them as they go.

He had added a number of other marginal notes, too. Such as Do not repeat not under any circumstances order fried eggs again in any roadside cafe and What is it with the fish-and-chips thing? and No they are not.
That last was written beside a paragraph which claimed that, if there was one thing that the inhabitants of scenic villages on the British coastline were pleased to see, it was a young American tourist on a walking tour.
hahaha, i tell you, this neil gaiman is a rockstar.

Life As We Know It...

...

... will cease to exist.

gah, how many times have you heard that in movies. "oh batman! please wear your batsuit! if you fight crime if you birthday suit, life as we know it, will cease to exist!"

each one of us deforms life around us. some in small ways (littering in KL = insignificant contribution), some in harmful ways (secondhand smoke), some in big ways (giving prof ong a vicious flying tackle that breaks his feeble back).

anyway. i'm just musing.

there's so little to laugh about these days. you could spend your time with jonathan au, but be prepared to slap your forehead more often than healthy.

or you could see this.

Pictures!

rehearsing for the malaysian studies thing! omg. that week, as kelvin summed it up perfectly, was the week where: we jammed too much, performed too much, drank too much alcohol, slept too little, and studied to little.

our dear 'ol professor ong and me on stage at the malaysian studies carnival. wonder when next will i get another photo opportunity with him. goodness knows i'm not on the dean list. haha.

if you can guess where we are, i'll buy you a teh tarik.

my father spoils another picture in korea. haha..

i tell you!!! my pants were like ali baba pants! i could fit a whole freakin turkey in them.

MIA

whoo!!! where have i been?? it's been hectic hectic hectic!!! whoo!

i had a week's break for hari raya, and i spent five of those days in korea. as a result, i've been running around non-stop and it's been a really high octane past two weeks for me. no breaks. not enuf sleep, not anything.

the week before the raya holiday was the malaysian studies week, and it really pushed me to the limit. die. luckilly it ended on wednesday. then that weekend i had a single song performance for rachel at the Noise and Movement event, and then i had to put up EIGHT songs at my fathers event on saturday! madness! damn fucking tiring! we lugged all the equipment from IMU to sg buloh and back. we finished at midnight. tired tired tired.

and then! the next monday was lipjeen's bday. and then tuesday was our 'own' celebration. happy, right? but i tell you, there's a certain standard wan if you're celebrating for your girlfriend. haha.

the korea! it was fun! haha...

i tell you... the place is really impressive. pics for all these things up soon. bye!!

give lipjeen a hug for me if you see her okay! haha.
