F&N - Roti Tisu #1

today, jankee came back to KL. or rather, subang, specifically. so me, him and joon went to asia cafe (where else) for a bit of pool. but bloody hell! we had this roti tissue at taipan before that. it was sweet, huge, brittle, and oh-so IRRITATING to eat. but it was good larh.

then we sent jankee to his vista apartments. he's got new housemates! debbie should be proud to know that it took two girls to take her place. hahaha... of course, they have less things than debbie has combined... haha. (the place was very neat....)

jan turned the computer on (wahlau...you horny bugger, i didn't mean it like that larh...) and joon logged onto his MSN. then me and jan started randomly talking to people. me? my target was danis. haha. he got a IM-chatbox-ful of "PENISSSSSS"s and all that.

the funniest thing, the didn't believe joon when joon reclaimed the hijacked conversation and told danis that it was actually me. well, come to think about it, the first message i sent danis via joon was "i'mgay". maybe danis can't let go of the hope. hahahahhaa...

anyway, today's Friday Night Noise is:

lyrics and tabs here.
they did this song at fort canning. amazing. this vid is taken off their Look Alive dvd (which is awesome)
tahz. meeting the missus tomorrow. can't wait! haha.
P.S. danis, it was me. haha.

Of Shakespear and What Nots....

for those of you who know me, it doesn't come as a surprise if i tell you that i have absolutely no poetic bones in me. i can neither appreciate good poetry, discern between the profound and mere simply rhyming, and i cannot write poetry.

but a few years ago i was struck by a piece written by neil gaiman. i felt the sadness, the acceptance and more funny things. how can this happen??? it was just words rearranged in some particular order, but i so very nearly shed a tear.

you see, my brother got this book of his short stories and poems for my birthday. i largely ignored the poems and read through them perfunctionarily. but anyway, in his rather extensive introduction. he wrote a little of every entry. of "Locks", he wrote thus:

"Goldilocks and the Three Bears" was a story by the poet Robert Southey. Or rather, it wasn't - his version told of an old woman and three bears. Ther form of the story and what happened was right, but people knew that the story needed to be about a little girl rather than an old woman, and when they retold it, they put her in.

Of course, fairy tales are transmissible. You can catch them, or be infected by them. They are the currency that we share withthose who walked the world before ever we were here. (Telling stories to my children that I was, in my turn, told by my parents and grandparents makes me feel part of something special and odd, part of the continuous stream of life itself.) My daughter Maddy, who was two when I wrote this for her, is eleven, and we still share stories, but they are now on television or films. We read the same books and talk about them, but I no longer read them to her, and even that was a poor replacement for telling her stories out of my head.

I believe we owe it to each other to tell stories. It's as close to a credo as i have, or will, I suspect, ever get.

so, armed with a brief description. read the poem "Locks" and tell me what you think.

F&N - Mid-March

so, finally, after abandoning Friday Night Noise for a long time. this week's pick is...

live at RockAmRing 2004, on youtube
he plays a seven-string guitar in this vid, by the way. if you freeze the vid at 2.20 and count the tuning machines on the headstock. there it is! anyway. enjoy.
here are the lyrics, if you can sing a long. hahaha...
Citizen Erased - Muse
break me in, teach us to cheat
and to lie, cover up
what shouldn't be shared?
all the truth's
unwinding scraping away
at my mind please stop asking me to describe
for one moment
i wish you'd hold your stage
with no feelings at all
open-minded
i'm sure i used to be so free
self-expressed,
exhausting for all
to see and to be
what you want and what you need
the truth's
unwinding scraping away
at my mind please stop asking me to describe
wash me away
clean your body of me
erase all the memories
they will only bring us pain
and i've seen, all i'll ever need

Blogging Again!!

so, what happened eh? well, i passed my exams, and i'm damn thankful for it. seriously man. even after all the slacking, all the 'jalan-jalan'-ing... i still managed to pass. BUT! i shall not be complacent. shall try to study harder next time. anyway.

after exams, me, chong bing and anthony went to genting for 1 night. it was fun! but the next night! i tell you. the next night, we somehow managed to get free drinks at Maison's. crazy larh. drank like no tomorrow. i passed out and woke up in anthony's bed covered in puke. garh. never again man.

can't even bear the thought of drinkin whisky. beer's fine though. (more than fine actually)

then, i went down to singapore to celebrate weilin's birthday. i overstayed my welcome and had to shift out to Kent Ridge Hall for a night before we watched the Incubus concert. here are! SOME! PICTURES!!!

the IMU gang

eh, check this out! we were swinging sparkle through the air in the shape of letters. long exposure means that we'll etch the tract of light in the image. you know, similar to those nighttime traffic shots where cars leave trails of light in their wake.

AND NOW!!! ANOTHER DUMB LLAMA SHOT!!!
(i mean llama picture, not llama that got shot)

and then incubus! but before that, i managed to meet up with old friends! shi yuan, qadir, yee kiat, teik zhen, hokito, shaun teh, moses and de-bra (deborah goh). nice seeing them again! kent ridge hall has damn small rooms. somehow teikteik managed to squeeze a fridge inside la. go figure. and here was... the concert!

the opening act, Saosin, was good! seriously man. their name is a distortion of a Chinese phrase. go wiki it if you're free larh. incubus was good, as expected, but i was a little disappointed that the singer couldn't hit the high Bs, and ben was disappointed that they didn't play their more popular hits. haha. to quote him "oh Brandon, you pleased your female fans by taking your shirt off, but you didn't please us!"

cheerio.

somewhere over seri kembangan, a storm is brewing. and its flying my way.
